We Could Build a Boat

A glowing boat drifts through Wintertide. Its sail becomes a night sky of constellations, glowing in the dark above the crowd. Along the hull, phosphorescent sea creatures shimmer as though they’ve risen from the depths of the North Sea.

We Could Build a Boat

A glowing boat drifts through Wintertide. Its sail becomes a night sky of constellations, glowing in the dark above the crowd. Along the hull, phosphorescent sea creatures shimmer as though they’ve risen from the depths of the North Sea. At the bow, a guiding light leads the fisherpeople who sit inside, following it onwards through the festival as they offer fish to the people they see.

About the artists and work

This is part of the 12°N Project, which embeds local artists within Hartlepool communities to co-create inclusive, imaginative activities shaped by residents’ interests and lived experiences. This year, the project celebrates the theme of Constellations — a reflection of creativity, community and unity. Just as stars form patterns in the night sky, Wintertide Festival seeks to illuminate the power of connection: between people, places and stories.

Accessibility and suitability

We can not guarantee that events have step-free access as it is situated within heritage site. The festival has accessible toilet facilities and is largely designed to be suitable for all ages and needs. Please check individual events for content warnings and age restrictions. Visitors with additional access requirements or concerns should notify the venue or organisers in advance. A free companion ticket is available with proof of eligibility, please get in touch at hello@wintertidefestival.co.uk for more information.
